Tigers to host Yoncalla in Cranberry Bowl
Coach Motts Thomas' first local bowl game
The Bandon Tigers will host the Yoncalla Eagles at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Tiger Field in the annual Cranberry Bowl football game.
Bandon defeated Valley Catholic 31-8 in last year's bowl game.
The Tigers welcomed a new coach this year, retired educator Motts Thomas, who has extensive coaching experience at the college and professional levels.
Bandon defeated Yoncalla in a non-league road game last year on a double-overtime field goal.
Thomas said, œI think Yoncalla is a pretty good team, based on how they performed last year. I've got to believe they're going to be a formidable opponent, given the fact that we have a new coach and a new system that the kids haven't had a lot of time to learn."
He added that he feels the Tiger players have œquite a test" to prepare themselves for this season's schedule.
œOur kids have been working really hard and we're doing okay," he said. œWe just hope to be able to snap the football without a penalty."
