 weekend of activities planned

Welcome to Bandon-by-the-Sea, the cranberry capital of Oregon!
Prepared by the Cranberry Festival Committee, the 63rd-annual Bandon Cranberry Festival has a great lineup of activities for festival-goers.

This year's theme, œLights ... Cranberries ... Action! invokes a Hollywood theme that is sure to produce a few drama kings and queens! The parade should be a red carpet event!

The events schedule offers something for everyone to enjoy. The festival begins Friday at 11 a.m. with the blessing of the harvest at the Russell bogs, U.S. Highway 101 and Randolph Road. The food fair and bazaar runs all day Friday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Bates Road, and the day culminates with the Cranberry Court coronation and awards ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Sprague Community Theater in City Park.

On Saturday, don't miss the grand parade down Highway 101 and through Old Town beginning at 10 a.m. And from 10 to 5 both Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy great food, arts and crafts, friendly folks and live entertainment at the Festival Market throughout Old Town.

Quilts made by members of the Bandon Quilter's Guild will be on display both days at the Odd Fellows Hall at Highway 42S and Ohio Avenue.

The Bandon Lions will be serving up scrumptious barbecued steak meals inside The Barn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the Bandon Tigers will host the Brookings-Harbor Bruins at Bandon High School's Tiger Field. The mystery person will be revealed at halftime.

Saturday night, the first-ever cranberry dance will be held at the Harbortown Events Center at 8:30 p.m. with live classic rock music for the 21-and-older crowd.

On Sunday, breakfast will be served at the VFW Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m., and the Festival Market in Old Town will open at 10.

You can also visit the renowned Bandon Dunes Golf Resort's practice center for the eighth-annual golf challenge on both Saturday and Sunday, and compete in œbeat the pro" and œclosest to the pin" contests, while at the same time supporting the festival queen's scholarship program. Shuttles to Bandon Dunes will be provided from the Festival Market.
Whatever you do, we hope you'll enjoy all the great fun and festivities Bandon has to offer. And you're always welcome here, so please come back and see us again.
